Celtic hammer the Neil Lennon smears

|

Mark Wilson Celtic newsCeltic have issued a statement hammering the smears that have made the agenda in today’s old media.

Pathetic accusations against Neil Lennon have abounded attempting to take the shine off his side’s 1-0 Scottish Cup win over Rangers.

Every avenue and every trick in the book has been used to deflect away from the rookie Celtic managers’ third win in two months over Rangers.

Responding to the lies being peddled about their manager Celtic came out fighting tonight.

A club statement from QC Paul McBride, acting on behalf of Lennon said: “These allegations are defamatory and outrageous with no substance whatsoever. This is a concerted campaign by malicious and despicable individuals to cause distress to Neil Lennon.

“Celtic Football Club and Celtic fans stand by their manager in the face of these vicious and unacceptable attacks.”

The allegations have come following Celtic’s win over Rangers in the Scottish Cup.

During the match nine yellow and two red cards were issued to Rangers players. Three Celtic players were booked.

Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra tried to prevent referee Calum Murray from issuing cards to Steven Whittaker and later on to himself.

After being shown a second yellow and red card after the final whistle El Hadji-Diouf decided to run to the Rangers support to throw them his jersey before being escorted off the pitch by first team coach Kenny McDowall.

It is believed that the SFA are considering further punishments for Bougherra and Diouf who both played in this afternoon’s 1-0 win over St Mirren.
