Chris Sutton heads for the hills of Donegal

Chris Sutton Celtic news

Chris Sutton will rejoin Celtic over the weekend as Neil Lennon takes his first team squad to Donegal to face Finn Harps in the first event of the John Kennedy Testimonial year.

Proceeds from tomorrow’s match with Finn Harps at Ballybofey will go to local charities with a number of other events including a game at Celtic Park in the pipeline for Kennedy.

Sutton played in the Nou Camp alongside Kennedy six years ago as Celtic knocked Barcelona out of the UEFA Cup and will attend tonight’s testimonial dinner at Jacksons Hotel in Ballybofey.

John Hartson was originally scheduled to attend the event but has had to pull out due to a family birthday with Sutton delighted to step in as a replacement.

Neil Lennon will take a full strength squad to the match after today’s game with Hamilton Accies and is looking forward greatly to the weekend.

The Celtic boss said: “It’s for John Kennedy who thoroughly deserves a testimonial, and we’ll do all we can to help and support him through this year.

“He was a bit younger than me when we played together, he was part of the bratt-pack that was coming through at the time with the likes of Shaun Maloney and Aiden McGeady.

“He was a tremendously talented player and it was a travesty what happened to him in his career.

“We’re delighted he’s now back working with us though and is still a part of the club, there’s no one more deserving than him of a testimonial.”
