James Forest is looking to bounce back from the disappointment of losing the Co-Operative Cup to Rangers by playing a part in the run-in to the SPL title.
Sunday’s defeat was a double blow for the teenager who was left out of the final squad and watched Rangers take the trophy from the sidelines.
After making a massive impact in the opening weeks of the campaign Forrest has had a stop start season but is now ready to fire on all cylinders in the push for the SPL.
“It was disappointing not to be involved as it was a cup final and we all want to play in games like that,” he admitted.
“It’s the first time I’ve been left out of the squad this season and I was gutted it had to happen in a cup final.
“It was difficult to watch too because if you are sitting on the bench at least there’s a chance of getting on.
“It’s not the same being in the stand. You don’t feel a part of things.”
The arrival and impact of Kris Commons has limited Forrest’s opportunities.
Since his signing from Derby, Commons has added a new dimension to Celtic’s play with Forrest watching and learning from the Scotland midfielder.
He added: “I can’t really complain about not getting a game as the team has been doing well and scoring goals.
“When I came back from my first injury I played nine or ten games, but after the Hearts game I got injured again.
“Kris Commons arrived the day after I was injured, then scored in the first few minutes against Aberdeen at Hampden. It was a dream start for him, but I’ve not really started much since.
“I try to learn from him though as he’s an experienced player. He has bags of ability and I watch him closely as he plays in the same position as me. There’s no doubt you can learn a lot from just watching him.
“He’s a sound guy and gets on great with the rest of the boys as he knew a few of them from the Scotland squad.
“He takes time to talk to me. You can see by his crossing and shooting he’s a top quality player.”
Forrest will be in action tonight when Scotland’s u-21 side face Belgium.
Shameful ignorance of Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill.
