Kayal set to be captain at Inverness

|

Biram Kayal Celtic newsBiram Kayal is likely to be given the captain’s armband for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie at Inverness.

The 22-year-old Israeli has made an amazing impact on Celtic this season and hasn’t been in a losing side since coming back from injury at the turn of the year.

Captain Scott Brown will miss tomorrow’s match through suspension, as will Mark Wilson, with deputy skipper Daniel Majstorovic ruled out through injury.

That leaves Neil Lennon with a decision to make over who leads the team out with Kayal almost certain to be given the honour.

The Celtic boss has been hugely impressed by the impact that the Israeli has had on his side since being selected for the new year win at Ibrox.

Without having played a full game in three months Kayal combined brilliantly with Joe Ledley as Celtic won 2-0 thanks to second half goals from Georgios Samaras.

Kayal went on to win the January Player of the Month award and was badly missed when Celtic lost 2-0 away to Motherwell- the only defeat of 2011.

“It’s going to be a difficult game on Sunday and you don’t expect anything else in the quarter-final of the cup anyway,” assistant manager Johan Mjallby admitted. “We know we have to play at our best to win the game.

“I expect a very hard game. They will be flying high after beating Motherwell at the weekend and they started the season ever so well and then had a wee blip.

“They are a side who work very hard together and will be difficult to beat, so hopefully we can play well and take the game to them.”

I thought Wilson was next in the order? It’s been him on previous games where Brown has been out.

  • Joe McHugh says:

Wilson is suspended, two bookings at Berwick and after his wonder goal v Rangers.
