Away from the Champions League is there any better double header for Sky Sports to show than tonight’s Chelsea-Manchester United clash followed by the Celtic-Rangers Scottish Cup Replay?

On successive nights two of the Premierships top teams will clash followed by the only fixture in Scotland that carries any interest down south to television audiences and advertisers.

Chelsea-Manchester United matches are rarely spectacles with both teams known for keeping things as tight as possible which usually leads to them cancelling each other out.

A draw tonight looks decent value at 11/5 with both teams fielding strikers on the crest of a slump.

£50m Fernando Torres has yet to find the net a month after leaving Liverpool while Wayne Rooney’s season stumbles from one drama to the next.

Torres is priced at 7/4 to score at anytime with Rooney 21/10- the best value looks to be in a 0-0 draw which would give both teams something from the match and is priced at 7/1.

Rooney goes into the match with a shadow cast over his him after the elbowing incident with James McCarthy in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Wigan.

That incident won’t be subject to an FA enquiry with Wigan chief Dave Whelan furious at the outcome.

He said: “It sends out a terrible message. Something is wrong when a top international like Rooney is seen doing something like this, as clear as day, and is allowed to get away without being punished.

“If it was any other club or player, you can bet your life he would have been sent off but officials seem intimidated by the words “Rooney” and “United”.

“Manchester United are allowed to get away with things the rest of us get pulled up for. And you can’t have one set of rules for one club and another for the rest.

“I don’t care what the FA say about the matter being dealt with at the time by us getting a free-kick. They, and everyone else in football, know justice isn’t being served here.”

And George Peat thinks that he has problems to deal with!

The only consolation that Sir Alex Ferguson can draw is that Rooney’s most recent controversy was on the pitch.

At Chelsea Carlo Ancelotti has had to deal with shooting star Ashley Cole impersonating Lee Wallace.

The link between left-backs and airguns has yet to be established but after the weekend news of what Cole takes to training the Chelsea boss has been forced into defending his regime at Stamford Bridge.

“Ashley, made a mistake,” the Italian admitted. “When he said sorry he was really disappointed.

“What do we have to do now? Kill him? No. We have to support him.

“It would be very different if he had not said ‘sorry’. We are not happy.

“He stepped over the line but we have to support him. We are really disappointed for the guy who was involved and was a victim of this. But things are not out of control.

“I am angry, obviously. I’m not happy and now I have to explain this is not a good thing to do. But I maintain the same idea about him – he’s a good player, a good man, also.”
