'Super-sub' Liam Gormley double sinks St Mirren

|

Liam Gormley Celtic newsLiam Gormley came off the substitute’s bench to score a second half double as Celtic’s u-19 side demolished St Mirren 5-0.

Goals in the first ten minutes from James Keatings and Callum McGregor gave Celtic an early advantage but it took the introduction of Gormley to put the game beyond St Mirren.

“Some of our passing was very good and the goals were well taken,” coach Stevie Frail said.

“We played well last week to win 4-1 away to Dundee United and they continued in that vain today.

“St Mirren are difficult opponents so it was pleasing to take all three points.

“Liam didn’t start the match but made an impact coming off the bench. He took his goals well and strikers are judged on how they perform on a Saturday.

“We’re looking for the players to perform consistently and that’s what Liam and others have to bring to their game.”

After the break McGregor scored his second of the day before Gormley netted his double after replacing Bahridin Atajic.

League leaders Rangers won 4-1 away to Hibs and remain three points ahead but Celtic can go to the top of the table if they win on Tuesday against Aberdeen

That match will be played at the Barrowfield and kicks off at 1pm.
