Who is the top scorer at Celtic?

Kris Commons Celtic newsWho is the top scorer at Celtic this season?

Gary Hooper or Anthony Stokes? Neither as Kris Commons is happy to point out.

Saturday’s double took the statistics driven midfielder’s tally for the season upto 20 with the promise of more to come.

Before he made his move to Celtic in January Commons had found the net 13 times for Derby plus once for Scotland against the Faroe Isles.

Scoring six minutes into his Celtic debut against Aberdeen at Hampden laid down a marker before going on to collect the unusual distinction of scoring on his debuts at Ibrox and Celtic Park within a month of signing for Neil Lennon.

Add in an international goal against Northern Ireland and Commons tally for the season so far reaches an impressive 20.

“I have 13 or 14 for Derby, a couple for Scotland and a few here,” Commons said after his double against Hamilton.

“It is going well for me. Everything I hit seems to be hitting the back of the net and long may it continue. I am looking to hit maybe 25 before the end of the season.

“I have played in three games against Rangers and a semi-final and the games I have been involved in are top drawer.

“It is good to play in a winning side, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets, which the clubs I have played for have struggled to do.”

Next up behind Commons in the scoring stakes is Stokes whose tally of 18 includes one goal from his time at Hibs.

Hooper is currently in third place with 15 goals for the season.
