John Herron goal not enough for Scotland

A first half goal from John Herron wasn’t enough to take Scotland through to the finals of the European Championships as the Czech Republic fought back to earn a draw and place in the finals.

Herron was one of five Celts in Ross Mathie’s starting XI and gave Scotland the perfect start with a 13th minute goal.

The Czech’s only required a draw to go through having beaten Italy and Slovakia last week and equalised through Lukas Stratil in the 62nd minute.

Scotland threw on Lee Erwin and Cameron Smith in a bid to snatch a winner but had to settle for a draw and second place behind the Czechs.

In their earlier group matches Scotland had drawn 0-0 with Italy and beaten the Slovakia thanks to a double from Kilmarnock’s Matthew Kennedy.
