The SFA have fired off an angry statement accusing Paul McBride QC of being a self publicist!
The irony of issuing a press release accusing someone of being a publicist seems to have be lost on the powers that be.
The SFA statement read: “The Scottish FA is shocked and angry at coverage in today’s newspapers following an interview given by Paul McBride QC to BBC Scotland.
Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan would like to make the following points:
1. We note that Paul McBride does not act on behalf of or as a spokesman for Celtic FC, its manager, or anyone associated with the club.
2. In making his unjustified and inflammatory remarks, Paul McBride appears to be acting as a self-publicist and not as a QC.
3. Paul McBride’s wild and inaccurate statements are defamatory and appear to be malicious.
4. The Scottish FA is now considering, with the benefit of legal advice, whether to sue just Paul McBride for damages or whether to also sue other parties.
5. A formal complaint is being made to the Faculty of Advocates with respect to the way in which Paul McBride has allowed himself to be held out as making comments to the media in his capacity as a QC.
6. We are aware that many observers and members of the public would appreciate clarity on the decisions made at yesterday’s meeting of the Disciplinary Committee. It would be inappropriate to comment publicly on committee decisions until the seven-day time frame for any appeal has elapsed”
Paul McBride’s reply to the statement and threat of legal action.
The threat of legal action in these type of cases is commonplace and rarely followed up.
McBride acted purely as an individual on Radio Scotland yesterday, it remains to be seen whether the SFA will issue similar statements against any individual who broadcasts criticism of the SFA.

Let me paraphrase Paul McBrides doubtless reply: ‘away and bile yer heids ye cannae sue onybody for “Fair Comment”‘– did yer lawyers get a degree from a pack o cornflakes?
SFA will not under any circumstances take Paul McBride to court, if they did they would leave themselves open to Mr McBride being asked to justify his comment that “The SFA are tonight officially the laughing stock of world football and they have been shown to be not merely dysfunctional and not merely dishonest but biased,”
I hope to God they do take him to court which will allow him to cite every occasion where he feels that their actions have been dishonest and biased. If the sfa honestly think that a man of Mr McBride’s stature lost the plot and blurted this statement out without thinking it through, then they are even thicker than I first thought.
I am a conspiracy theorist and I see Mr Reid’s fingerprints all over this, he did after all state his “work” was not finished at Celtic and that all he wanted was parity with other clubs.

So they threaten to sue a private citizen for voicing criticisms of what are baffling and blatantly incompetent decisions taken with not even a nod to fairness, yet their head honcho Peat can publicly criticize Celtic for being what he calls “tiresome”….then take up a seat in the director’s box at mordor and cheer a hun goal….not bad for an Airdrie fan.
Sounds to me like there are some seriously squeaky bums in the SFA lodge…they’re panicking and blowing out a lot of smoke. I’d love to see this going into a court….McBride would rip them apart and would more than likely call as evidence all written evidence of disciplinary hearings and conducted conducted over the last few years. The SFA would be collectively shitting themselves at the prospect of facing McBride in open court.

the sfa have put their bitterness towards celtic before common sense, along with blatant bias from referees they have handed rangers the previous 2 league titles, would rangers have won them anyway? i dont think so, but now we will never know. those 2 titles are tainted, rangers will have to answer for all of this in years to come, when eventually scotland evolves enough, people will use the bigotry and bias towards celtic as a main example of how sectarianism worked in scotland. people will not be able to differentiate between what titles were deserved and which are tainted, the sfa will one day have to publicly apologise and rangers will forever be tainted.
