Stuart McCall: That was embarrassing

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall has labelled his side’s 5-0 hammering from Rangers as embarrassing.

Three weeks before their Scottish Cup Final date with Celtic Motherwell were turned over on their own park in front of a live television audience.

“We are really, really disappointed,” McCall said. “We didn’t see that coming. I don’t think anyone could have seen that coming before the game and certainly not at half-time.

“The last 30 minutes were embarrassing. It’s embarrassing the fact you get beat 5-0 at home, that should never happen.

“It’s not even acceptable to go away to the Old Firm and get beat like that, but it’s understandable if they’re playing really well. But not on your own patch.”

The Motherwell boss added: “I think some of the Rangers goals were outstanding. If their best players are at the top of of their game, they’re hard to live with.

“In the first half, we more than matched them and we had better chances, but what was disappointing was the second-half performance.

“There were a couple of key decisions that went against us, but it’s really disappointing because the lads have been great since I’ve been here.

“But I’m gutted – everyone in that dressing-room is playing for a Cup final place, for other clubs who are watching them, or a new contract here – they’ve all got things to play for.”
