Willie Collum gets Celtic semi-final clash

|

Willie Collum will take charge of his first Celtic game in three months when Neil Lennon’s side face Aberdeen on Sunday at Hampden in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

The last Celtic match that Collum was in charge of was the 1-1 draw away to Hamilton on January 10 when he gave a string of puzzling decisions including a straight red card for James Forrest and a booking for Niall McGinn for simulation.

Iain Brines is in charge of Saturday’s semi-final between St Johnstone and Motherwell and is also the man in the middle for tomorrow’s St Johnstone-Celtic SPL match.

Craig Thomson will be the fourth official at the Celtic-Aberdeen match and recently took charge of the Barcelona-Shakhtar Donetsk Champions League tie.

Speaking to the SFA website about that appointment he said: “I’m lucky enough to be involved at the top level in Scotland, but being on the same pitch as some of these players that you only watch on TV, and seeing that kind of movement, passing and control, is something else.

“Referees are essentially football fans, so it was a real privilege to be part of a game like that. There were 98,000 supporters in the stadium but it almost feels as though you have the best seat in the house, right in the middle of the action.

“It‘s quite an achievement to be involved in the Champions League at this level. If you look at the other three quarter-finals there were teams of officials from England, Spain and Germany – three countries with arguably the best leagues in the world – so you could say that Scottish officials are punching above their weight.”

I think Bishop Crosas’ recent comments on Thomson at Barca & The Hibs game says it all.

This clown should never be given an SPL game again. He’s an incompetent idiot.

it’s gonna be a nervy time every time willie gollum goes anywhere near a celtic game, expect honest mistakes galore to go against the bhoys and hope the bhoys play well enough that he doesn’t get too many chances to influence the game.

  • Stevie says:

Collum a joke of a referee wouldn’t trust him in a kids game.
