Simeon Jackson’s goal in the 50th minute was enough to earn all three points and ensure second place behind QPR.
Going into the match Norwich were given a massive boost when rivals Cardiff lost 3-0 at home to Middlesbrough with Barry Robson scoring the second goal.
That left Norwich knowing that a win at Portsmouth or at home to Coventry in their final match would guarantee promotion.
After a goal-less first half Jackson’s goal in front of 3,000 travelling fans earned Norwich all three points and a £80m windfall from television money.
Lambert took over from Bryan Gunn as Norwich boss in September 2009 after inflicting a 7-1 win over the Canaries on the opening day of the 2009/10 season whilst in charge of Colchester United.
