New bhoy Kelvin Wilson was unvailed at Celtic Park today and quickly impressed with his tattoos.
Hopefully it’s not a sign that I’m really getting old but the tattoo bhoys seem to be dominating the club these days.
When Gary Hooper and Kris Commons were ‘showing off’ the new international strip after the initial dazzle the tattoos caught my attention.
Daniel Majstorovic is a bit older than most of his team-mates but has some impressive arty looking tattoos to show off.
With Wilson signing today and showing off his needled artwork it almost seems as if well tattooed arms are essential if you wish to progress in the game.
Danny Fox had tattoos that were certainly more eye-catching than his ability to fill the troubled left back slot while loan signing Robbie Keane had tattoos to match his almost goal-a-game record.
If full length tattoos are essential elements for a modern player who’ll be next to be showing off their artwork at a signing announcement?
In an interview in 2008 before returning to play for Derby at Nottingham Forest for the first time Commons discussed his tattoos which includes the Virgin Mary on his left arm and a Japanese koi carp on his right.
He said: “I’ve been back to Nottingham to get my tattoos done. I’ve got some extensive work going on. As well as those on my arms, I’ve got one on my back, another on my legs. My former Forest team-mate, Wes Morgan, normally goes with me. He’s covered in ink, too.
“It’s quite a big thing at the moment. I might have to have my Forest one covered up on Sunday, though.”
Commons seems to prefer wearing a long sleeved Celtic top although the new international kit seems only to be available in short sleeves.
Anthony Stokes seems a bit reluctant at times to show off his tattoos, the striker is often seen with a longish white vest/skin tight t-shirt hiding his artwork.
