Motherwell chief goes to war with SFA

Motherwell chief John Boyle is to appeal against the £2,500 fine he received from the SFA for his amazing touchline bust-up with Craig Brown.

The shameful scenes were similar to the Ally McCoist-Neil Lennon incident which prompted a summit from the Scottish Government.

While the Celtic manager got hit with a four match touchline ban Boyle and Brown were let off the hook with the veteran Aberdeen boss ‘severly censured’ for his part and Boyle fined.

Despite the obvious comparisons with the McCoist incident the Motherwell chairman claims that his clash with Brown was just a laugh.

“The Craig Brown incident is something my children find highly amusing,” Boyle admitted. “There are 106,000 hits on YouTube, which shows me that people have too much time on their hands.

“The incident is what it is. I’m appealing against the SFA decision, because I’ve been here 13 years and this is the first time they’ve had any cause to have a word. If you can’t have a quiet word in somebody’s ear, what’s the world coming to?”

Boyle will step down as Motherwell chairman in the summer and is hoping to sell his shares to the local business community.

During his time in charge at Fir Park Boyle put the club into administration in 2002 making 19 players redundant including future Wigan manager Roberto Martinez.
