Efrain Juarez broke the deadlock as Mexico opened their defence of the Gold Cup with a 5-0 win over El Salavador.

Despite the commanding scoreline it took Mexico until the 55th minute to break the deadlock.

After having shot from Giovani dos Santos’ cross blocked by goalkeeper Miguel Montes the rebound bounced off the Celtic midfielder’s shoulder and ended up in the back of the net!

Manchester United striker Chicharito went on to steal the headlines with a hat-trick with Juarez coming up with a unique description for his goal.

“It was circumstantial,” the midfielder laughed. “I think the celebration reflected the good atmosphere inside the stadium.

“On the field shows that although at one point was not playing well, the team was confident in the way that we were playing.”

Asked about interest from Real Zaragoza he replied: “Actually I do not know, my agent will handle it.”

On Thursday Mexico face Cuba before taking on Costa Rica on Sunday in their final group match.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
