red card Celtic newsHearts will appeal against the £100,000 fine that they have been hit with by the SFA’s Disciplinary committee.

The punishment was administered by the old Disciplinary Committee and is clearly a massive area of conflict for new SFA President Campbell Oglivie who is a Hearts director.

Following Tuesday’s vote at the AGM of the SFA the Disciplinary procedures and punishments for next season will be changed.

The Edinburgh side have been ordered to pay £60,000 straight away with a further £40,000 of the fine suspended after having their didsciplinary record investigated for the seventh season running!.

In a statement issued tonight Hearts said: “The appeal will be based on the fact that Jim Jefferies’ side improved its discipline significantly in season 2010-11, its red card count slashed to just five compared to ten during the previous campaign.

“The club strongly believes that the heavy fine – £40,000 of which is suspended – grossly misrepresents the improvements made, with Hearts’ final season disciplinary co-efficient of 7.54 well below the previous season’s co-efficient of 8.33.

“Hearts will also use in its defence the fact that the difference between the average co-efficient across the league and its final co-efficient has reduced substantially from 2.94 in season 2009-10 to 1.63 last season, demonstrating a further trend of improvement.”

Thirty clubs were fined by the SFA with the highest punishments handed out to Stirling Albion who were hit with a £3,000 fine with Dundee and Montrose each getting fined £2,000.

There is still no word of what punishment Hearts will receive after a supporter attacked Neil Lennon at Tynecastle.

Imagine the fine heading to Ibrox if all their fouls and dissent was actually punished with cards?
It would take their minds off the HMRC case.;)

  • Mark says:

how come they didnt get this fine last year if they got twice as many red cards? or did they? serves them right tho, i would fine them this amount for one tackle alone – the one ian black did on paddy mccourt early in the season at parkhead. it was sickening and was uncarded too
