Damari gets his transfer

Israeli striker Omer Damari has signed for Hapoel Tel Aviv for an undisclosed fee.

Damari’s representatives had talks with Celtic in midweek about a transfer but interest in the player cooled after details of the ‘deal’ were made public in the midst of negotiations.

“We have agreed everything with Celtic,” claimed Petach Tikva president Amos Luzon. “But the player is still to agree personal terms with the club. Next week, I believe the deal can be completed.”

Tikva claimed that a £2m fee had been agreed with Tikva also due 30% of any future transfer fee with claims that the player would soon be sold for £10m minimum!

Celtic’s interest cooled significantly after that and within 48 hours Tikva had agreed a deal with Hapoel having previously claimed that they didn’t want to transfer Damari to a domestic rival.

After signing for Hapoel Damari said: “It’s a club I’d dreamed about playing it since I was a kid. I thank Tabib and Kasten (Hapoel coaches) wanted me and brought me.

“There were some difficulties, there were negotiations with Celtic that didn’t work out. I am looking forward to playing under the coaches here and hope that we can have a good season.”

The speed with which the Hapoel deal was completed suggests that talks with Celtic were intended to speed the transfer through.
