Ferguson excited by signing former Celt

Former Rangers midfielder Ian Ferguson can’t wait to start working with Liam Miller.

The midfielder quit Hibs at the end of last season and signed a two year deal with Perth Glory and will make his debut against Celtic on Saturday.

Seven years ago Miller was about to start life at Manchester United with Ferguson expecting big things from his new signing.

“I’m hoping he’s going to be one of our playmakers,” the Perth Glory boss admitted. “ He’s got a great engine, he’s up and down the park and everybody I’ve spoken to has given him rave reports.

“You don’t play for Man United if you’re any kind of mug. I think Australia will be very surprised when they see Liam play.

“We were lacking energy and mobility at times and we’re trying to get that now. We’ve brought in a few players in who will hopefully give us that, from the full-backs to the midfield and even up front.”

Miller added: “It’s very exciting for me, I’m really looking forward to this. I think the most important factor for me was the football, which I’m really excited about.

“I’m sure it will be a good standard and I’m sure it will be a tough league, but a nice league to play in as well.”

Celtic boss Neil Lennon added: “When Liam first burst on to the scene at Celtic he had a meteoric rise. Then he went off to United and his career probably didn’t pan out the way people thought it would’ve but he’s still got a lot of quality.

“He’ll be a good signing and it’s a bit of a coup for Perth to get him. I’ve known Liam a long time and he had couple of seasons at Hibs where he played very, very well. He’s a very good player.”
