Peter Lawwell Celtic newsPeter Lawwell wants to see Celtic involved in the latter stages of the Europa League.

Neil Lennon’s side will enter the competition at the final qualifying stage knowing that qualification will take the club into the group stage involving six matches before Christmas.

This season will be the third running in which Celtic have missed out on playing in the Champions League but the hoops chief believes that the team can aspire to go far in the secondary UEFA event.

He claimed: “Looking at last season’s Europa League finalists, Braga and Porto, there’s no-one that can tell me that Celtic can’t match up well with either of those teams.

“I think that a Europa League run is very possible but we want to be in the Champions League and get back to the top table.

“The entry route to the Champions League is more difficult but that’s where we are looking towards. We will not give up on that, that’s what we want to bring back- the big Champions League nights and I think that we can do it.”
