Malky Mackay delighted by Kenny Miller deal

Malky Mackay is confident that the capture of Kenny Miller added to the earlier signing of Robert Earnshaw can fire Cradiff into the Premiership.

Miller passed a Cardiff medical yesterday with just international clearance required to complete the deal despite Rangers well publicised interest in their former striker.

The new look strike force could play in today’s friendly at Bournemouth but Mackay is gearing his attention towards the start of The Championship season which sees Cardiff travel to meet title favourites West Ham at Upton Park.

The Cardiff boss said: “Kenny’s the current captain of Scotland. He’s a leader. I think he’s got better with age. He’s someone who is always a goal threat. He’s got a fantastic work-rate.

“He’s a leader of the line and someone who sets up goals too. He would be a great addition.”

The signing of Miller could however have one positive effect for Rangers with Cardiff cooling their interest in David Goodwillie.

The Dundee United striker has been one of the many players that Rangers have discussed in public with Cardiff also strongly linked with a £2m move for Goodwillie.

Discussing his priorities Mackay admitted: “With Kenny and Robert, I certainly see them as the two marquee signings now.

“I’m loathe to talk about that (the Goodwille) situation out of respect for Dundee United.

“We are still on-going with players to add to the squad is what I will say. But Kenny coming in gives us a real marquee signing alongside Earnie.

“Both are fantastic and experienced players at this level and, as a centre-back, I would not want to play against them as a pairing.

“I think they are two players who could play together.”
