Celtic’s youth team paid the price for missing their chances as they dropped their first SPL points of the season to Aberdeen.
A wonder goal from Conor Devaney cancelled out Paul George’s 68th minute opener allowing Hearts to go clear at the top of the table after their 2-0 win against Rangers at Murray Park.
The Aberdeen celebrations at Devaney’s goal showed how much the goal meant to the home club with the young Celts finding out just how hard these matches can be.
“At this club the players need to get the right mentality to win games as well as developing as players,” coach John Kennedy explained. “It’s important to win every game at Celtic.
“They are at a big club, they need to be the best to get in the first team. They are all good players, that’s why they are here in the first place, it’s just a matter of guiding them in the right direction.
“Coming up here we knew we were in for a tough game, I think that we did more than enough to win the points but it never happened.
“You could see what it meant to Aberdeen to score their goal and that’s what we have to expect from every team.”
Kennedy added: “On another day I’d like to think that we’d put our chances away, in a few pre-season matches we scraped a win but dominated the game. We need to work on putting our chances away.
“It’s sore that we never managed to win the game, we had enough chances and didn’t take them.
“You are always under a bit of pressure that they could find a goal and that’s what happened. We need to be clinical in front of goal and finish teams off so that if they do get a goal you still have a lead.
“We seemed to take our foot off the gas a bit, they got back into the game and scored. There was a few good performances out there but you need a bit of stubborness to hold out, I’m sure that they’ll learn from it.”
