Neil Lennon confirms Izaguirre fracture

Neil Lennon has confirmed that Emilio Izaguirre fractured his fibula in the 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The full-back was injured in a challenge with Aberdeen’s Peter Pawlett in the 15th minute and immediately looked to be in trouble.

There was virtually no contact between the players with the injury coming from contact with the turf.

Izaguirre was taken to hospital in Aberdeen during the match with Lennon fearing that he could be without his first choice left-back for a few months.

“It’s a fracture of the fibula,” the Celtic boss confirmed. “You knew straight away when he went down. He obviously felt something, it’s a fracture.

“He’s being assessed at the minute. We don’t know yet whether he requires surgery, if he does we could be looking at three months out.

“It’s a hammer blow for the player and for us as well.”

Charlie Mulgrew replaced Izaguirre but Lennon admitted that the injury could force him into the transfer market again for a left-back.

The Celtic boss added: “If the news with Emilio is really bad we might have to look at bringing someone in. We’ve only got Charlie to play there, Mark Wilson might come in as cover.”
