Stokes- I'm in better shape than last year

Anthony Stokes was delighted with the goal that delivered Celtic the points at Aberdeen yesterday.

With Craig Brown’s team goal-less all season the homeside were within 20 minutes of taking a pint from Celtic when former Ranger Rickie Foster was robbed of the ball by Kris Commons.

A quick exchange of passes with Stokes ended with the ball being drilled into the net to give the striker his second goal of the campaign maintaining the only 100% record in the SPL.

“I’m happy with the way things are going so far,” Stokes said. “I’m feeling good. I came back after the summer ready to go and feeling fit.

“I think I’m in good shape now. I’m in better shape than I was last season and I think that’s showing on the pitch.

“Every striker wants to be top scorer in the league, but I haven’t set that as a target. I just want to score as many goals as I possibly can.

“I want to keep myself in the team and I know scoring goals is the best way to do it.”

Stokes added: “There will be frustrating games for us this season. We know it’s going to be tough at times but sometimes you just need to dig in.

“I think we’ve got the patience. We didn’t start lumping the ball up then trying to pick up the pieces. We kept knocking it about pretty well and trying to create some chances. Eventually we got that goal.”
