Willie Collum Celtic news Willie Collum makes an unwelcome return to the SPL taking charge of Sunday’s St Mirren v Celtic match.

The eagle-eyed official has been on FIFA duty at the u-20 World Cup in South America where he was in charge of two low key fixtures involving Cameroon against New Zealand and Saudi Arabia against Guatamala before being left out of the latter stages.

Collum was involved in a number of controversial matches last season most noticably the 3-1 defeat by Rangers in October followed by a catalogue of errors in the 1-1 draw with Hamilton in January.

George Drummond and Derek Rose will be Collums assistants on Sunday with Iain Brines in charge of the Rangers v Aberdeen.

  • Stevie says:

Poor Wullie the roman catholic who is terrified to make any decisions in Celtics favour incase he’s accused of bias.
Only in Scotland can the bigots rule.

  • kenny matt says:

We are only playing st mirren ffs. this insignificant sfa yesman should not make any difference.if he cant make proper decisions cos hes scared of being called bias, then he shouldn’t be a ref. stand up for yerself Mr Collum.

If we can’t win this weekend, then NL’s coat be on a nail that gets shakier by the game. i like NL, but at end of day, results get u sacked.

  • Wb says:

Why are me focusing in refs ??

When you hear managers moan about “luck” and refs its because they, and their players aren’t good enough!!!!

Was the ref to blame for the St Johnstone
result??? NO Lennon and the team he picked were!!

We’ll see who’s to blame if we cant beat a very average european team in Sion. There are NO excuses if we can’t beat them over 2 legs.

  • arniebhoy says:

how come just because willie collum teaches in a roman catholic school everyone instantly assumes he is a catholic?

when the pic in the rags showed him with his book and a christian cross dangling from it, it looked to me like a cross and not a crucifix.

I am not saying he is not a catholic, just saying is there actually any evidence to back it up? not one of the other officials mentioned in the article is catholic and will bet a pound to a penny they are all to a man rangers fans (including collum).

    • Wb says:

      Eh cos he teaches RE!!!

      • arniebhoy says:

        and what?

is it only catholics that teach R.E? taking a huge amount of self control not to give you pelters here son. the “w” wouldn’t happen to stand for william would it? would explain a lot!!

        • wb says:

EH well done Sherlock, correct we are both William’s and Catholics, what a Catholic name starting with W how could that be??so what does that mean, your a narrow minded bigot?? arnie..mmmmm,,,arnold..??a Norman name, Iam sure Mr. Collum may enlighten on on religious origins, and am no your ‘son’ …..pity anyone who is..

    Arnie

Willie is indeed a Catholic, one who should remember commandments numbers 1* and 8** when he fails to give the right decision in order to progress in his career.

    * I am the Lord your God, you shall have no other gods before me

** You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

And as a RE Teacher he should have no need to look them up.

    • arniebhoy says:

Have to say GJ it surprises me and if you are sure I won’t question it further.

Guys like him are worse than huns. Being an RE teacher he should also be familiar with a certain Judas Escariot and how people view his kind. Catholic or not though he is I would suggest not a supporter of celtic and must have drifted to the dark side at some juncture in his miserable life.

  • Stevie says:

One of my biggest fears this season ain’t the refs although they are shocking.

Some Celtic fans on Sunday were a joke from the penalty miss the whole way through the game the amount of abuse the players had to deal with was a disgrace.

I would like to congradulate the green brigade on there total backing of the team.

    Support your team FFS.

  • greenjedi says:

Don’t get me started on the GB and their up the ra chants

    • Stevie says:

At the very least they the green brigade back the team to the end. I didn’t hear any up the ra chants but I’m at the opposite end of the ground.

My point was the disgust I felt for the abuse the Celtic players had to take from thousands of our fans.

Rather than abuse our players why dont they head over govan way and help the evil empire cause there no good to Celtic at this difficult time.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

I’m not the GB’s biggest fan either greenjed….
but fair play to them…they kept up their support ’til the final whistle….with no dodgy songs ….

  • Hugh Macfarlane says:

With the appointment of Brian Winter and now Willie Collum as referees in concurrent Celtic SPL matches we see the SFA attempting to influence the outcome of yet another title race.

After a difficult midweek game Celtic were vulnerable and the Winter appointment did influence the outcome of this game more than many are aware. Celtic have never won more than two successive games with Mr Winter in charge and Celtic again failed in the attempt to win a 3rd successive game with him on Sunday.

I’m not making any judgements about either referree or saying that Celtic shouldn’t have to deal with difficult ref appointments only that there should be fairness in this and that Rangers should also be subject to a comparable level of difficulty as regards referee appointments.

  • fazzy40 says:

Hugh, the ref had little to no influence on the game on Sunday he awarded a penalty not miss it there were no bais decisions on Sunday unfortunatly there was a poor and lacklustre Celtic team who should have been ashamed of their efforts or rather there lack of effort.

That was the 5th time this calender year (Hamilton, M’well, Huns LCF & Inverness) this Squad has done this and the board have let us down by not bringing in at least 1 experienced quality player.

  • greenjedi says:

    Arnie

I knew William (as he was then)years ago, amazingly he was a huge Celtic fan!

  • arniebhoy says:

surprising GJ. i cannot fathom why anyone who does or has supported celtic can officiate so blatantly biased against us. either he has been turned, joined a lodge or sold his soul.
