Stade Rennes newsAn 87th minute equaliser from substitute Juanfran earned Atletico Madrid a 1-1 draw away to Rennes.

Victor Montano’s second-half strike looked to have given Rennes the points but like Celtic a late goal denied the home side full points.

Celtic now face back-to-back matches with Rennes with both sides knowing that they need to take at least four points from those games to retain a realistic chance of qualifying.

Rennes enjoyed most of the first half possession against Atletico but failed to convert their chances, with Jires Ekoko coming closest with an effort that went just wide in the 35th minute.

Eleven minutes into the second half Rennes opened the scoring with Montano finding the top-left corner of the net from 20 yards out.

Rennes look set to claim the points to draw level with Atletico but substitute Juanfran, on the pitch for just seven minutes, fired into the roof of the net from inside the box to make it 1-1.

While Celtic travel to Rennes Udinese will play host to Atletico in Matchday 3.

  • Willie Aitkenhead says:

The more points Rennes drop the better….I expect a really tough game over there…so hopefully they are out of contention by the time they visit Parkhead.
