Champions League Celtic newsCarlos Tevez has hit back at Roberto Mancini claiming that there was ‘some confusion’ over his refusal to go on as a substitute for Manchester City against Bayern Munich.

The soap opera that is Tevez, his £200,000/week wages and desire to quit Manchester exploded last night as City trailed 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Mancini wanted to bring on the former Manchester United star who refused to take the pitch. Straight after the match Mancini said that Tevez was finished at the club but this morning the player claimed it was all a misunderstanding!

“There was some confusion on the bench and I believe my position may have been misunderstood,” Tevez claimed.

“I would like to apologise to all Manchester City fans, with whom I have always had a strong relationship, for any misunderstanding that occurred in Munich.

“They understand that when I am on the pitch I have always given my best for the club. In Munich on Tuesday I had warmed up and was ready to play.

“This is not the right time to get into specific details as to why this did not happen but I wish to state that I never refused to play.

“Going forward I am ready to play when required and to fulfil my obligations.”

With one point from their opening two fixtures City face an uphill task progressing in the Champions League with Mancini adamant that Tevez won’t play again.

“He refuses to go in,” Mancini revealed. “He refused to come on the pitch. What I said to Carlos is between me, him and the team, I am really disappointed because it is Carlos. I decide the changes.

“It’s a bad situation – it’s important for a player to help the team. I wanted to calm everything and put Carlos Tevez on the pitch.

“Can you imagine a Bayern Munich, Milan or Man United player doing this?

“He refused to warm up and again refused to go on the pitch. If a player has a lot of money to play for Manchester City … he can’t (refuse to play), never.

“We will speak about this with the chairman in the next few days.”

Mancini should have got the 4th Official to put the Boards up and called his bluff!

Great player, Mancini has had problems with a dozen players at City, maybe it’s time he asked himself, can it be everyone else at the club with the problem?
