Green Brigade Celtic fansCeltic’s Green Brigade put in their most effective performance of the season today as Neil Lennon’s side beat Inverness Caley Thistle 2-0.

There was more talking points in the stands than on the park with the bhoys of 111 delivering their message to the do-gooders of the Scottish Parliament with wit and style and the sort of cutting edge that would have been welcome on the park.

After the match Lennon singled out the backing that the team received saying: “The fans were brilliant today, they were absolutely tremendous, I can’t thank them enough.

“Particularly the crowd over in the corner, they kept the atmosphere bubbling and I can’t thank them enough for that.”

Substitute Thomas Rogne tweeted: “Good 3 points today, against a strong team. Green Brigade MOTM.”

Anthony Stokes added: “Fans were great 2 day, green brigade really got the place going!!”

Before the kick-off the first of a number of topical banners were unveiled with ‘SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT AND POLICE GUILTY OF THE CRIMINALISATION OF THE CELTIC SUPPORT’ setting the tone for an afternoon of spectacular protest.

The match kicked off in an eerily quiet stadium with the drums and chants from the Green Brigade silenced.

Early in the first half they unveiled a NO STANDING banner which drew applause all around the stadium with others following proclaiming messages such as NO SWEARING, NO AGGRESSIVE FLAG WAVING and NO LATERAL MOVEMENT drawing support from all around the stadium.

‘SMILE FOR THE CAMERA- SEE YOU IN COURT’ was another message aimed directly at the chin-stroking, middle aged, middle class, do-gooders of the Scottish Parliament as they make a dogs breakfast at attempting to be seen to do something about offensive behaviour when existing legislation if applied would be more than adequate.

Thankfully there was a burst of action on the park with two special goals from Joe Ledley and James Forrest looking out of touch in a performance with little quality.

Half an hour into the first period the stadium rose to the un-orchestrated chant of ‘Stand up for the Green Brigade’ in a show of unity for the under fire supporters group.

As ever the Green Brigade keep their most powerful messages for half time with ‘OUR SONGS ARE NOT SECTARIAN, OUR SONGS ARE NOT ILLEGAL, WE WILL NOT BE CRIMINALISED, WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED’ serving notice of the intentions of those in 111 before the drums rolled again with ‘Let The People Sing’ bouncing around the stadium setting the tone for the second half and the return to normal activities.

The atmosphere has rarely been better at Celtic Park with a massive huddle coming early in the second period.

With the Green Brigade leading the way their influence spread to to the North Stand, before long the Jock Stein stand were responding with the chants bouncing back and forward from behind both goals.

At the end of the match the Celtic players made a point of clapping towards the Green Brigade and their heavily scrutinised home in section 111.

Celtic Park without the Green Brigade would be very tame, if the Scottish Parliament could make their legislation as concise and effective as the efforts of the Celtic support today the best wee country in the world would be a much more pleasant place for all.

Well done to the GB and all the support today, really desperate to get to a game when our support are extraordinary like today, i haven’t been to a game in 4 years after an accident but should get to 1 at the tail end of the season, hopefully it will have an atmosphere like this!
Other supports would have been on their teams back today, (i would probably be a real moaner myself). HH

Joe, you are probably the best online Celtic blogger about – but this website is getting overrun with intrusive adverts.

I know Footballfancast have to pay the bills, but I’m scared to go on here now during work because my speakers (which I need for my job) are guaranteed to blur out.

  • well done you bhoys in green. keep up the good work
