Boot change works wonders for Forrest

James Forrest has revealed that a boot change helped transform Celtic’s League Cup tie with Hibs.

The Scotland winner screwed an awkward shot well wide of goal during the first half, although he had been flagged offside, but showed a devastating touch in front of goal in the second half equalising within 20 seconds of the re-start then putting Celtic ahead in the 58th minute

The manager told me to change my boots at half-time,” Forrest revealed. “I was wearing mouldies and he wanted me in studs.

“I don’t know if it made a difference but it makes the gaffer more comfortable and that’s the most important thing.

“To be fair, I was going to change them anyway.”

Lennon confirmed: “I told Forrest to change his boots for a start. He was playing with these white moulded boots on and he kept hitting the first man, stumbling over the ball and wasn’t right in his thinking at all.

“James is the type of kid you can have a go at and get a positive response and he set the tone for the second half straightaway, he was magnificent.

“He is a great talent, no doubt about it, he is very quick over five or 10 yards, the physical side is improving and he has a lot of belief in himself.

“He goes both way with pace, he plays with menace he is a hard man to stop and he will only improve.”
