Lewis Kidd Celtic newsCeltic duo Stuart Findlay and Lewis Kiss were on target for Scotland u-17’s as they beat San Marino 3-0 in the opening match of their European Championship group in Macedonia.

Findlay headed Scotland into the lead in the third minute with Kidd scoring with a 25 yard drive early in the second half before a 66th minute goal from Hamilton’s Stephen Hendrie left San Marino needing snookers.

After the match new Scotland coach Rickie Sbragia said: “We got off to a great start and had a lot of the ball.

“Their goalkeeper made some good saves and we had a few chances cleared off the line but overall it was a good team performance.

“We were also able to make some changes which will hopefully help us when we play Macedonia on Wednesday.

“We have no injury problems which is also pleasing. Hopefully we can get the win against Macedonia and we will be in a great position to qualify for the elite round but it will be a hard game.”

In the other group match Macedonia and Turkey drew 1-1 meaning that Scotland just need to win one of their matches to ensure a top two spot and qualification for the next stage of the competition.

Celtic’s u-19 side are hoping to be back in action on Saturday away to Kilmarnock at the Kilwinning Sports Ground, kick off 11.30am.

Hearts and Hibs have both overtaken Celtic in the league table but with games in hand over both clubs John Kennedy’s side know that continuing their winning run will restore their place at the top of the table.

The u-19 side take on Manchester City at Celtic Park in the Next Gen Series on Monday November 7.
