Are Hearts worth 50,000,000 times Rangers’ value?

Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov has slapped a £50m price tag on the Tynecastle club!

Romanov paid Chris Robinson approximately £5m to take control of the club in 2005 and is now looking for ten times that amount after claiming to have spent almost £200m during his time in charge.

Earlier this year tycoon Sir David Murray sold Rangers to Motherwell-born billionaire Craig Whyte for £1 despite having paid £6m to take control of the club in 1988.

Romanov’s reign at Tynecastle has been a long running soap opera with the final chapter- the sale- likely to be the most controversial.

Apart from constantly changing coaches the Hearts chief has regularly slated the standard of Scottish football with the media and referees coming in for his fiercest criticism.

Hearts are believed to have a £31m debt to Romanov’s bank but despite the depressing backdrop the wealthy Lithuanian believes that the Edinburgh club are worth £50m!

Romanov said: “The land is worth £25m, plus the players, the club with a project, are also worth £25m. That’s about £50m. It’s not the money I spent, but now that’s what it’s worth.”

Today’s date isn’t April 1.
