Paul McBride quits Scottish Tories

Leading QC Paul McBride has quit the Scottish Tory party following Ruth Davidson’s appointment as party leader and the parties decision to vote against Alex Salmond’s Offensive Behaviour Bill.

McBride came to prominence earlier this year as he represented Neil Lennon against the George Peat inspired move by the SFA to drive Lennon out of Scottish football.

The QC brought the SFA to their knees as he poured through their archaic rule book which led to a complete overhaul of the disciplinary system and ended the committee structure widely regarded as an old boys bowling club network.

McBride has been one of the leading younger lights in the Tory party but following the election of Davidson it seems like the party are about to splinter as they face upto an independence election with McBride delivering a damning verdict in his resignation letter which almost compared his old party with the SFA!

It had nothing to do with Ruth winning.” McBride claimed. “I resigned over their performance on criminal justice, in particular their approach to the Offensive Behaviour Bill.

“They are the most moronic, dysfunctional, introspective bunch of MSPs I’ve ever seen.

“They have no interest in the people of Scotland. Their only interest is their careers. I’m joining the 87 per cent of the population who don’t agree with a word they say.”

McBride became a cult figure amongst the Celtic support as he showed the SFA up as an out-dated organisation whose articles of association were unlawful.

His backing for Salmond’s Offensive Behaviour Bill, which has been admitted in Holyrood as an attempt to even up the number of Celtic supporters being criminalised, has saw his stock plummet amongst Celtic fans with the wishy washy ‘legislation’ refusing to define what is and what isn’t offensive.

McBride, who quit Labour in 2009 to join the Tories added: “The bill prevents offensive behaviour against people who are gay, disabled or belong to a certain group or religion. It also prevents people glorifying terrorism.

“The Tories oppose criminalising people who wish to indulge in that kind of behaviour.

“All they have done is replace one very nice woman, under whom the party declined, with another woman, who probably isn’t as nice, is going to get less votes and is supported by only two out of her 15 MSP colleagues.”

He said: “That twit (Tory Justice spokesman John Lamont)has opposed every single initiative Kenny MacAskill has come out with and hasn’t offered one positive suggestion to deal with crime.”
