referee Celtic newsCharlie Richmond will referee Sunday’s Motherwell v Celtic clash at Fir Park- his third SPL appointment of the season.

Richmond was demoted alongwith Steve Conroy last season but has won his way back into favour.

The last time that he took charge of a Celtic match was in the 1-0 win away to Hibs in May 2010 when a Robbie Keane penalty settled the points with eight yellow cards dished out. Prior to that Richmond took charge of the 4-0 defeat at St Mirren which ended Tony Mowbray’s managerial reign.

Richmond also refereed Celtic’s 3-2 win at Motherwell in December 2009 when Aiden McGeady and substitute Marco Fortune scored spectacular goals.

Thursday’s Europa League tie will be refereed by Bruno Paixão from Portugal.

Scottish referees have again been ignored by UEFA for this week’s Champions League ties although reagle-eyed Willie Collum will be in charge of the AEK Athens-Lokomotiv Moscow match despite his appauling performance in the Aberdeen-Rangers game at the weekend.

  • Stevie says:

Wouldn’t trust any Scottish mankie referee their all tainted same as the shames titles.
Collum must be among the worst offender though.
