Majstorovic suffers cheekbone fracture

Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic will miss the December 28 clash with Rangers after fracturing his cheekbone at St Johnstone today.

The Swede was replaced by Thomas Rogne after 32 minutes of Celtic’s visit to Perth and is expected to be out of action for 4-6 weeks.

Majstorovic seemed to land awkwardly after challenging David Robertson for a high ball just inside the Celtic half. Biram Kayal immediately signalled to the Celtic bench about the extent of the injury with Majstorovic taken off for treatment.

The return from injury of Rogne, and Kelvin Wilson who was an unused substitute, gives Neil Lennon some options at the back but the Celtic boss recently highlighted the influence that Majstorovic has had on the defence.

The 34-year-old Swede has made 18 appearances for Celtic this season as well as helping his country qualify for the European Championships.

With Glenn Loovens also out with a hamstring injury Lennon only has Victor Wanyama and Charlie Mulgrew with recent first team experience although Rogne and Wilson are back in contention after injury.

Second half goals from Gary Hooper and Ki Sung Yeung gave Celtic their seventh consecutive victory to trim the gap with Rangers back to four points.
