Gary Hooper Celtic strikerNeil Lennon believes that Gary Hooper has been Celtic’s player of the year.

The former Scunthorpe striker is back amongst the goals and showing the touches and instinct that are likely to take him past last season’s total of 20 SPL goals from 26 appearances.

Hooper has scored 11 times from 17 SPL starts and has an overall record of two goals from every three starts since moving to Celtic.

“Over a consistent period it is Hooper,” Lennon told Celtictv. “He’s only had a couple of games where he’s been a bit flat. You notice how it effects the team when players like that are a bit flat.

“He’s back on song now, playing very well and has had a great year.

“If Izaguirre hadn’t got injured and had kept playing the way that he was playing he would certainly be up there.

“James Forrest has had a great year, Joe Ledley has been very very consistent, very unsung. Ki has already got five or six goals and it was only a bit of fatigue and a virus that stopped him playing in the majority of the games.

“His performance on Thursday (Udinese) and Sunday (St Johnstone) showed me that he’s back towards his best, he’s a terrific footballer.”
