Jim Goodwin St Mirren news Former Celt Jim Goodwin has signed a new contract with St Mirren committing him to the Paisley club until the end of the 2013/14 season.

The 30-year-old signed for St Mirren last season following a brief spell at Hamilton Accies and was appointed club captain by Danny Lennon this season.

Hibs were recently linked with making a move for the player who made one Celtic appearance, on the final day of the 1999/2000 season.

A statement from St Mirren read: “It has been confirmed that St Mirren captain Jim Goodwin has signed a new contract that will see him ply his trade with St Mirren Football Club until at least the summer of 2014.”

Goodwin joined Celtic from Waterford before going on to spend the bulk of his career in English football playing for Stockport, Scunthorpe and Huddersfield before joining Hamilton in August 2010.

In 1998 he was a member of the Ireland u-16 squad which won the European Championships, held in Scotland, and has collected one full international cap.
