Zurawski points Brozek towards Celtic

Celtic are in advanced negotiations to sign Pawel Brozek on loan until the end of the season.

The striker is out of favour at Tranzonspor but despite competition from Rangers, Gaziantepspor, Legia Warsaw, Lechia Gda?sk and Young Boys Bern it seems that he is likely to sign for Celtic.

Reports in the Polish media claim that Maciej Zurawski has advised the player to head for Celtic where he is still in contact with Neil Lennon.

Zuarajski was a team-mate of Lennon during season 2005/06 when he finished as top scorer as Gordon Strachan’s side swept to the double of SPL title and League Cup.

Brozek played alongside Zurawski at Wisla Krakow before Strachan spent £2m to bring Zurawski to Celtic alongside Artur Boruc.

Trabzonspor signed Pawel and his twin brother Piotr in January 2011 but neither player has made much of an impact in Turkey.

Celtic have been looking for a striker to compete with Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper with the loan deal for Brozek suiting all parties.

Brozek is desperate to play first team football to ensure a place in Poland’s Euro 2012 squad with his decision to go to Celtic certain to disappoint Ally McCoist.

Discussing a move for the Pole yesterday the Rangers boss said: “We have touched base with his club in terms of seeing if a deal can be put together. The lad wants to play as it’s in his best interests with the Euros just round the corner.

“I haven’t been told it is connected to the (Nikica) Jelavic deal, I’m hoping it is not as I fancy the two of them working together but time will tell.”

Discussing Celtic’s move for the striker after beating Hibs today McCoist admitted: “It’s a disappointment but I would use the word ‘target’ a little bit carefully.

“He’s a player we were looking at and – I won’t lie to you – we were sort of interested in but there were no specific bids made and I didn’t have any contact with the player or the agent.

“He’s absolutely well within his rights to do what he thinks is best for himself. There’s no doubt about that.

“It would take a lot more than that to really disappoint me to be honest.”
