Terry Butcher newsTerry Butcher couldn’t hide his anger at Celtic’s Scottish Cup win over Inverness claiming that it was like a training match.

Goals either side of half-time from Georgios Samaras and Scott Brown gave Celtic third third win of the season over Butcher’s side as the visitors made it 15 domestic wins on the bounce.

Inverness went out of the League Cup to First Division part-timers Ayr United but the former England World Cup hero felt that today’s defeat was more disappointing.

“It was like a training match for Celtic today,” Butcher claimed. “They worked harder than us and that is an awful thing to say.

“I can’t believe how frustrating it is and how disappointed I am. We just let everybody down.

“Celtic could have scored more goals and the only positive I can take from the game is that we only lost 2-0.

“We hardly had a shot, we hardly had a cross and we hardly had any decent play in their half and the penalty was a comedy of errors.”

Caley Thistle striker Jonny Hayes was just as devastated tweeting: “Apologies to anyone who paid for that today! Terrible performance mainly from myself! No excuses against a better team.”

I know it is being ultra critical but I wish we would start hammering these outfits goal-wise rather than just out-playing them. A good 6-0 skelping is due to someone (oh please let it be Hearts).

Don’t get me wrong I am delighted to have won 15 in a row, and I never thought we were capable of that earlier in the season, but my mind would rest a wee bit if we could just absolutely batter someone.

I thought Brown and Hooper were excellent today. And big Kelvin and Sammi deserve a special mention as well. Good to see Brown and Samaras performing so well. I would have punted both earlier in the season. I’ve never claimed to know anything though.

I totally agree johnd. It’s high time we started looking to bury teams like this. We did the same with rangers. We sat on one goal rather than slam home the superiority in goals.
Big Stein wouldn’t have done that!

There have been so many games this season where we have been in cruise control.

Everyone says the opponents were poor but we seem to have an ability to keep games under control & as long as we win I don’t care how we play.

  • Just back from the game Celtic in easy street can’t see anybody getting near us from now on and the troops were in fine voice with the “were having a party when rankers die ” jelly and ice cream when rankers die, pass the parcel when rankers die and musical chairs when rankers die haha great stuff but as usual polis and stewards start there shite hail hail

If you thought he was angry you should have seen and heard the lovely man from Nr Ire Kenny sweet talking Shields after his team got beat by The Hi-Bees.

All he said was their goalie wasted time he couldn’t hide his anger never mentioned Pat Fenlon just their goalie wasted 9-12-15-20 secs walking about the penalty box- sour loser

Just about got out of 2nd gear today and strolled it! Another good result against awkward opposition. A comfortable win, Commons is slowly getting his form back and we are strong throughout the team. Lennon has found some good players for good money and deserves all the credit. HH
