SFA football newsStuart Findlay faces Iceland tonight at Dumbarton just two days after scoring his first international goal at u-17 level.

The Celtic defender scored the crucial goal at Somerset Park on Tuesday night as Scotland beat Lithuania 1-0 in the opening group match as they attempt to reach the elite group phase of the European Championship.

With Denmark and Iceland drawing their opening match Scotland lead the table going into the second phase of matches.

Sbragia said:  “We couldn’t really ask for much of a better start, especially with Denmark and Iceland drawing in the other match.

“We played some good football in the first 30 minutes and created four or five good chances but we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal.

“Lithuania came back into the game a little as the game wore on but we managed to get the goal and hold on for the win which I thought we deserved.”

Findlay was joined in the side that beat Lithuania by Celtic team-mate Lewis Kidd with fellow Celts Jamie Lindsay and Denny Johnstone appearing as second half substitutes.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Some decent football on display, alas not to be v Iceland and we have a really tough game to come v Denmark. Great experience for the youngsters though and all part of the steep learning curve.
