Gordon Strachan Celtic newsCeltic can put the SPL title beyond Rangers by winning next Sunday’s derby clash at Ibrox.

Ally McCoist’s side lost 2-1 away to Dundee United- their third SPL defeat in four matches- to leave themselves 21 points behind Celtic.

An away win at Ibrox next Sunday would take Celtic 24 points clear of their city rivals with just seven games left to play.

Motherwell would still be able to catch Celtic if they win their next two matches, at home to Aberdeen and away to Kilmarnock.

Despite avoiding making any players redundant Rangers were unable to get back to winning ways at Tannadice.

Keith Watson and Jon Daly put the home side 2-0 up with goals either side of half-time before a cross from Sone Aluko was deflected past Dusan Pernis but the visitors were unable to salvage a point.

In 36 games in charge of Rangers McCoist has tasted defeat 9 times.

Just want clarification – Do we need Motherwell to drop points today for a league clincher at Ibrox?

  • Marty1967 says:

We do Bhoyo. We need them to drop points today at aberdeen or away to kilmarnock next week. They are 1 up at half time as i type this.

Bhoyo — Motherwell need to lose one of the games or draw both games with a win for the bhoys for Title Celebrations at snake mountain next week.

Bhoyo – aye, if Motherwell lose today and we win at castle greyskull then we’ve won the league. However if Motherwell win today then and we beat the current buns then only murderwell have the chance to catch us.

  • Bhoyo says:

Cheers Kevin. Just realised though, that Motherwell are away to Killie next saturday. If aberdeen canae take points off Motherwell today, I fancy Killie to do it next saturday. HAIL HAIL!

Brilliant! However Strathclyde’s finest best cancel all leave as there will be a lot of rampaging bears. All Celtic supporters need to be extra vigilant.

  • Joe says:

One thing you can be sure of is that as this week moves along, the police will yet again become involved with talks with both clubs and warn Celtic that we must not hump them again otherwise there will be the inevitable crowd trouble.

The police did this to us prior to last seasons League Cup Final hard on the heels of Celtics three humiliating destructions of rangers.

It will though only delay the inevitable. Winnign the league fairly and platying to rules isn’t something they know anything about though.

Hopefully we clinch the title officially where it belongs….at Paradise and give the majority of fans the chance to really celebrate.

Just treat next week as another fixture, 3 points and move on. The party has only just begun

  • Bhoyo says:

Cheers Monkeybhoy and Marty. Both your comments never showed up til after Kevins, but now showing as posted before his…. strange.
Wether we clinch it at Ibrox or Parkhead it’s gonna be great. Dangerous to win it in their garden but I’d love to see it (but we all know it’d end violently). So having said that, a party in Paradise would be best for all.
    HAIL HAIL!

I can see ‘Well beating Killy but who cares even if we were not making it mathematically impossible for ‘them’ to win the league with all these tax/admin problems it was going to be a very special day.

I wish I was there but I’ll have to settle for sky’s coverage but I’ll be able to see replays after our goals.

Anyone going please be carefull i pray nothing bad will happen but we know what they are like. Lenny better be protected by cops.

As much as i would love to win the league at Ibrokes next Sunday I would also like to see Motherwell push them into third place on Saturday with a win at Killie..Choices Choices!
