Lambert too strong for Harry Redknapp at the Lane

Paul Lambert took Norwich’s achievements to a new high today by beating Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

Less than two years after guiding the Canaries out of League One the former Celtic skipper put one over on Harry Redknapp who is widely expected to be appointed as the next England manager.

Anthony Pilkington’s 13th minute opener was cancelled out by Jermaine de Foe before the interval but midway through the second period Elliot Bennet notched the winning goal which delivers a massive blow to Tottenham’s hopes of winning an automatic Champions League place.

The win edges Norwich onto 43 points, the same total as Liverpool, and a point above Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland who crashed 4-0 at Davie Moyes’ Everton.

Two other former Celts are in direct action tomorrow night when Blackburn host under-fire Liverpool.

Despite lifting the Carling Cup and reaching the last four of the FA Cup Kenny Dalglish finds himself on the end of some serious criticism for the first time in his Anfield career.

Liverpool have lost six of their last eight Premiership matches and are as far away as they’ve ever been from challenging Manchester United for the title.

Before Saturday’s home draw with Aston Villa Dalglish said: “I do not know if I have experienced a run like this, I don’t remember anything as a manager or a player – or even as a supporter.

Someone told me for the club it was the worst since 1953. I am not that old and so cannot remember that far back.”

In the Championship today Middlesborough’s play-off hopes took a blow when the lost 2-1 away to Hull, Malky Mackay’s Cardiff remain in a play-off spot despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Watford.
