Celtic kids hit EIGHT at Hampden to clinch double
The result was never in any doubt with Callum McGregor netting a hat-trick as Celtic celebrated their third successive double of SPL title and Youth Cup.
Like the four SPL sides that they had faced on route to the final Queen of the South had no real answer to the power, passing and purpose of John Kennedy’s side.
It took Celtic just two minutes to open the scoring when Filip Twardzik tapped the ball home after a Marcus Fraser header struck the crossbar.
The First Division side barely ventured into the Celtic half and found themselves two down after 28 minutes when skipper Jackson Irvine shot crisply into the net following a corner on the right by Dylan McGeough.
Three minutes from the interval McGeough netted with a low drive from the edge of the box with McGregor completing the first half scoring from the penalty spot after Fraser had been brought down.
Twenty minutes into the second half a header from Gormley struck the bar from an inviting cross by McGeough on the right as Celtic stepped up the pace.
Sixty seconds later John Herron showed great footwork to collect a McGeough pass and slot the ball past Jim Atkinson in the Queens goal.
The goals were now flying in with McGeough adding his second before McGregor put Celtic seven up sliding onto a pass across goal from substitute James Alab.
Six minutes from the end Alabi was brought down in the box with McGregor squeezing an unconvincing penalty straight down the middle and just over the line.
Although Queens were outplayed they can take heart from the fact that Celtic have dismantled most SPL sides in similar fashion and won home and away to Manchester City in the Next Gen Series.
