For many Celtic supporters Saturday’s title win at Kilmarnock was one of the greatest experiences ever.
Over the last decade Celtic fans have enjoyed plenty of memorable successes with great European nights at home and abroad to recall and enjoy.
Martin O’Neill’s side of 2003/04 produced a five match whitewash of Rangers on the back of the Seville season which produced a lifetime worth of highlights from Blackburn, Stuttgart, Liverpool and Boavista.
Under Gordon Strachan Manchester United and AC Milan were turned over in the Champions League in front of 60,000 fans and television audiences measured in their millions.
In comparison a 6-0 win in front of 15,000 fans at lunchtime in Ayrshire shouldn’t really be at the races but try telling that to anyone that was at Rugby Park.
With Kilmarnock handing over three stands to the visiting support in exchange for a cheque close to £300,000 the Ayrshire ground rocked like it has never known.
The party atmosphere was already well underway by the time Charlie Mulgrew’s powerful header opened the scoring with the defender on a personal mission to tie up the title as early as possible.
In the stands the full modern repertoire of Celtic songs boomed out plus a few in praise of Rangers chairman Craig Whyte.
Originating from the Green Brigade the chant of ‘Glasgow’s Green and White’ almost brought the match coverage to a standstill on ESPN as the gantry swayed and commentator Derek Rae was almost drowned out.
With one section of the support leading with the chant the other half roared back a decibel or two higher!
The ESPN cameras scanned around the support to pick up the power of the chant as the Celtic supporters celebrated the arrival of their first title since 2008.
