Are the SFA setting up a Sion saga?

Although most folk might not have noticed, I’ve been a bit quiet on here the past few weeks, I blame work but I have been keeping up with things on Twitter and of course on this website and various other sources of ‘internet bampottery’.

Like most folk, I am getting fed up with this Rangers saga but there seems to be a new twist to it every day so I guess it’s difficult not to talk about. I heard a Rangers fan, yesterday, saying that regardless of what happens, the club will be fine as they’re too big to go out of existence. It’s the arrogance of their fans who have that mindset that certainly doesn’t endear them to very many people.

The most recent thing to come to light is the fact that Rangers have taken the SFA to a Scottish court instead of going via a FIFA / UEFA governed court.

Apparently, by agreeing to play in Scotland and therefore be governed by the SFA, Rangers, and all other Scottish clubs for that matter forfeit any ‘normal’ legal rights that they may have had.

Although I don’t know the full ins and outs of the FC Sion story, I know that they challenged a sporting decision in a Swiss court and that seemed to upset the powers that be.

Will UEFA / FIFA look on Rangers challenging the SFA in the same light ? If so, then the repercussions could take up at least another few months of reading and writing.

I did say before that I was fed up hearing and talking about Rangers so it now seems a bit silly for me to spend time and give an option for more people to read what I am saying about them so I will move on to another football team in Glasgow.

They are called Celtic and as much as it may be difficult remember, we are the league champions. Oh, that day at Rugby Park was great and all going well, we could have more days of celebration like that in the near future.

Since there hasn’t been a great deal of news coming out of Celtic park, I feel I should comment on the Real Madrid friendly match that we are due to play in the US. I have written about this subject in the past. To summarise, my view is that the club shouldn’t be travelling so far when it’s likely to be close to a Champions league qualifier.

We risk fatigue and injuries and gain some money. How much money? I do not know but if it’s not enough to purchase more players to cover potential fatigue and injuries, then it’s not the correct thing to do for me.

Other fans, especially non UK based fans have told me that it’s a great way to allow them to see Celtic play and it’s also a good way to give exposure to potential new fans in places like the US and Australia etc.

It’s a debate that everyone will never agree on really but a good one none the less…

The final thing I have been thinking of is the squad of players that we have. If the mainstream media are to be believed, then it’s almost certain that Celtic will sell at least one of our more prominent players.

The likely candidates would have to be Mulgrew, based on the season that he had last year. Perhaps Izzy based on his player of the year season the year before and some of his international appearances.

Moving on to the middle of the pitch, Brown, Kayal, Ki, Ledley, Commons, Wanyama and Forrest could all be sold for a healthy profit.  Most seem to think that Ki should be the man to go. I’m not convinced, my choice is pretty unpopular and it’s Kayal.

I want to make it clear that I think Kayal is a great footballer- when fit. I also have to question his temperament. Shortly before he signed his new contract, he was rumoured to have refused to play a game against Hearts. Of course, I don’t know if that’s the case but if it is, then I would have let him see out the remainder of his contract and refused to play him, sell him or increase his wages.

I suspect that he would be one to stay though given that he is a bit of a fans favourite.

As of yet, it’s too early to say who we will face in the European qualifiers but I really do miss the Champions League nights at Celtic Park, as far as I am concerned, they blow the derby games out of the water by a long shot.
