O'Neill vows to change shopping habits

Martin O’Neill has promised Sunderland fans that he won’t leave his summer transfer business till the last minute.

As Celtic boss O’Neill became notorious for leaving his transfer business till the back end of the transfer window to the frustration of supporters.

That reputation has followed the Irishman south of the border with only the loan deals to bring in Wayne Bridges and Soti Kyrgiakos completed during the January transfer window.

Sunderland fans are anticipating a major clear out of players with a £10m deal already in place to make to make Asamoah Gyan’s loan deal to the UAE permanent.

“People have always said I do my shopping late,” O’Neill admitted. “But I would prefer to have the players in early if it’s possible, but sometimes you can’t do it.

“We could have an acquisition or two before the season starts, that’s very important and certainly I’d want them before the end of August.”
