Celtic keeper in LA Galaxy talks

Dominic Cervi is set to join LA Galaxy on trial.

The Oklahoma born keeper’s Celtic contract is about to expire with interest being shown from a number of MLS clubs.

Robbie Keane and David Beckham are the star names at Galaxy who are managed by former USA coach Bruce Arena.

Cervi joined Celtic in October 2008 but had to wait six months to get a work permit until he had secured an Italian passport through his great-grandparents.

The demise of the SPL Reserves effectively ended his hopes of progressing with Artur Boruc, Lucasz Zaluska and Fraser Forster battling for a first team place.

Cervi had to make do with occasional matches for the Celtic development side and spent brief loan spells at Dundee and Morton.

The 25-year-old has been capped at u-19, u-21 and u-23 level by the USA but hasn’t appeared for the full international side.

Bill Gaudette is the current first choice keeper at Galaxy but Arena is keen to look at Cervi after being aware of him during his time as national manager.

Galaxy have had a poor season and are sitting second bottom of the Western Conference with just 11 points from 11 games.

Keane has played in 9 games for the Galaxy this season scoring 3 times after a loan spell at Aston Villa during the winter break..

Beckham had been expected to leave the club for Paris St Germain but decided to remain in the MLS which allows three players to be paid outwith the wages cap.
