Whatever happened to loan Celt Landry N'Guemo

Two years ago the future of Landry N’Guemo was one of the main topics of the close season for Celtic fans.

The midfielder had been a qualified success from Tony Mowbray’s disastrous time at Celtic but had only been signed on a season long loan.

With Cameroon featuring in the South African World Cup the then 24-year-old could have been in demand but made only one appearance as Cameroon exited the tournament with barely a whimper.

Neil Lennon retained an interest in the player but wasn’t prepared to match the £1m asking fee from Nancy despite the player entering the final year of his contract.

At that point very few Celtic fans had heard of Biram Kayal or Efrain Juarez with news of a move for Joe Ledey looking unlikely with Premiership clubs and Roma showing interest.

Despite reports of interest from Wigan and Bolton N’Guemo returned to Nancy before signing a three year contract at Bordeaux last summer.

Bordeaux won their last six matches of the season to finish in fifth place and qualified for a Europa League spot.

N’Guemo played in 33 of their 38 league matches picking up seven yellow cards and scoring one goal.

During his season at Celtic N’Guemo made 45 appearances with his final match being the 2-1 win over Rangers when Marco Fortune and Lee Naylor scored the goals in Neil Lennon’s first derby match as Celtic boss.

Scott Brown, Georgios Samaras and Mark Wilson were the only players from that Celtic side to have played a part in the 2011/12 title winning effort.
