Aberdeen’s board of directors have bowed to fan pressure and hinted strongly that they won’t vote to allow newco Rangers into the SPL.
After weeks of deliberating and intense lobbying the Pittodrie board have come stated that sporting announced that the integrity of sport will be central to their decision.
Dons chief executive Duncan Fraser said: “A large numbers of our supporters have made their views and feelings very clear and as a Club I can assure everyone that these are being taken into account.
“The integrity of sport in general and football in particular must be central to any decision.
“This issue has our full attention and we will communicate any decisions we take in relation to this situation with our supporters in a transparent way at an appropriate time.”
Hibs and St Johnstone directors have both come out strongly supporting the need for sporting integrity but falling short of saying that they would vote against the SPL welcoming in a newco.
With no proposal yet on the table it’s difficult for clubs to speculate on how they would vote. Should newco Rangers apply to join the SPL it’s likely that there would be a vote on whether to accept the application and also a vote on whether they should have any sanctions applied.
Aberdeen fans have been amongst the most vociferous in saying no to newco with one survey indicating that 97% of supporters were against newco Rangers joining the SPL.
One supporters group commissioned a survey which said that the loss of 300 season tickets would equal the loss of revenue from two visits a season by Rangers fans to Pittodrie.
Gordon Duncan, spokesman for the fans’ group, Dons Supporters Together, said: “Aberdeen is a business based on fans so they have to listen to them.
“A lot of supporters are holding off from renewing their season tickets until they see which way we vote.”
Yesterday supporters of Hearts and Hibs came out strongly against newco Rangers joining the SPL with many Rangers fans warming to the idea of a new club starting out in Division Three of the Scottish Football League.

Any club that accepts Cheats FC will deserve all the backlash they will assuredly get from both their own fans and visiting support.
Such fans will NOT be won back easily and this could lead to years of pain for short term gain.
Whatever reconstruction they can patch together, they will never be Rangers again, the fans will simply not get behind a side struggling, taking heavy beatings from major rivals and chaos will reign for some time with King looking to take matters to courts…..while desperately defending his own 250+ criminal charges – Says it all really, too many CROOKS spoil the broth as they say.
“many Rangers fans warming to the idea of a new club starting out in Division Three of the Scottish Football League.”
WARMING – They should be begging. What that club has done – and remember every single person connected to them who wallowed in their ‘stolen’ success (100%) are responsible – deserves nothing short of complete expulsion from football of any kind. Added to this is the utter disdain they have and the contempt they show towards any other Scottish football club. Not an iota of an apology. Not a whisper of ‘sorry’. ONLY BLEATING SELF-PITY AND DISGUSTING THREATS and these from ‘their heroes’. THEY ARE THE UNDESERVING!

Seems like its going to be the bums rush for them anyway, so any club that doesn’t get a sudden attack of morality is likely to get a lot of stick from their own and other fans
A tainted, sectarian signing policy, financially
and moraly bankrupt ! No apoliges for anything on their tainted history, get them out
For the good of football and society!
There will be much ” walking away” over the next few weeks, so much for the loyalists!!
