Midfielder declares himself fully fit

Beram Kayal will be fully fit when he returns to Celtic next week for pre-season training.

The midfielder missed over four months of action last season following a crude challenge from Lee McCulloch on December 28 as a Joe Ledley goal sent Celtic to the top of the table.

Kayal made a cameo appearance in the final SPL match of the season at home to Hearts and continued his rehabilitation through the summer.

Celtic allowed the midfielder to train with the Israeli international side for their end of season matches on the condition that he didn’t play.

Neil Lennon’s side are five weeks away from a third round Champions League qualifier with Kayal in peak condition to help Celtic through to the group stages.

“The summer was good for me because it was decided I would go with the national team for their camp,” the midfielder explained.

“I hadn’t done a lot of training before the end of the season because of my injury and I knew I needed more.

“For this reason I spoke with the Israel boss and we managed to organise everything so I could go into the camp only to have training and not to play in any of the games for the team.

“I managed to speak with Neil Lennon and explain the situation, which he was happy with.

“It enabled me to get back into training at a vital time then I was able to rest for the summer.”

Kayal’s return to full fitness will give Lennon plenty of midfield options with Joe Ledley, Victor Wanyama, Scott Brown, Ki Sung Yueng, James Forrest, Kris Commons and Georgios Samaras all competing for places.
