Andreas Isaksson Celtic newsCeltic are weighing up a move for Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson .

The 30-year-old is out of contract at PSV Eindhoven and is interested in a move to the SPL Champions.

Despite losing his place to Polish international Przemys?aw Tyton at PSV Isaksson retained his international place playing in all three of Sweden’s matches at Euro 2012.

The stand-off with Fraser Forster has forced Celtic to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper in time for the opening Champions League qualifier on July 31 or August 1.

In the last two years Celtic have turned to Sweden to sign Mo Bangura with Isaksson’s international team-mates Daniel Majstorovic and Mikel Lustig also signed by Neil Lennon.

Moving to Scotland shouldn’t prove too difficult for Isaksson who has also played for Rennes and Manchester City after a spell with Juventus as a teenager.

In four seasons with PSV Eindhoven Isaksson has played over 150 games.

Speaking after his team’s 2-0 win over France the keeper said: “I think we played well today. We were a bit unlucky in the first two games, and we should have had at least one or two points.

“But we had a good finish, it doesn’t matter because we are out anyway, but it is good for the spirit of the team to finish with a good win.

“I don’t think it really matters that we ended France’s run. The most important thing was that we won and we did our best and we proved that we are a good team.

“This game was the beginning of something new, and it’s a good start for the following games in qualifying for the (2014) World Cup. So it’s good that we ended in a good way in this tournament.

“We just tried to do our best. We didn’t change anything. We were a bit sharper maybe today than against England.”

he is mince, utter mince. Hands off of this guy as he doesn’t win games for the team. I don’t rate him at all.

big FF has had his chance glad lenny is looking at someone else, fraser will regret not signing for the champions cause he wont get anything close to celtic in the future that said we wish him well in his career. hail hail

So we were prepared to pay £ 2m for Foster…but now look to replace him with a free agent who has failed to impress for some years.

I’d have thought much better of our scouting system, that they would have a better alternative lined up

So you think we should sign players who cost money instead of mibbie a better player who costs nothing?

You say he has failed to impress for some years, can you give the details on that?

No transfer can ever guarantee to work out for any number of reasons. But as we clearly had a budget of £ 2m + decent wages set aside I’d be looking for a quality replacement in an area that has cost us dear too often. Quality costs as they say else we would never need to buy any players at all….mibbie all freebies are better but I very much doubt it…they are generally free for a reason, apart from the obvious – previous club doesn’t want them !!

Isaaksson has a long history of injuries, not been highly rated for several years. While playing fairly regularly at PSV they have dropped well down the Dutch pecking order in recent years.

Can you (Greenjedi) give me details of games where Isaaksson HAS been impressive either with PSV / Sweden ?

Didn’t look too impressive to me in the recent Swedish games. Even the expert panellists were agreed that Sweden were average at best – Played 3 and let in 5 against teams who failed to make any real mark on the tourney.

You are the one who stated that – “has failed to impress for some years”

You’re the one who has to back thatup

  • williebhoy says:

Did he impress at the Euro’s ??

I believe he does come highly recommended by Theo Walcott 🙂

PSV obviously did not rate him too highly, bringing in Tyton to replace him. Now happy to release Isaaksson for nothing. If they thought him worthy surely they would offer a new contract even as back-up.

You don’t agree with my view, no problem that’s football….I am sure top clubs all over Europe are clambering for his signature unless they hold similar views to mine.
