Air miles start to MLS for former Celt

Vancouver Whitecapps boss Martin Rennie is delighted with the impact that Barry Robson has made on the MSL side.

After a 3-0 defeat away to LA Galaxy the former Celtic midfielder was brought in for his debut away to Colorado Rapids with the Whitecaps emerging with a 1-0 win.

Last night the Whitecaps drew 0-0 away to Chivas USA with Rennie pleased with the way his new signing is settling into his new adventure.

After last night’s draw the Whitecaps coach said: “Barry kept going for 90 minutes, I think that maybe the last 10 he got a bit tired, but he was marking on set plays and I didn’t really want to change that.

“The last few minutes he did get a little bit tired but he did get 90 minutes already which shows how professional he is and how hard he’s been working in his offseason and how quickly he’s got his fitness up.

“Now he should be ready to contribute for us. It will take a few more games to get in the rhythm of things but already he helped us a lot because he was always willing to take the ball, he was always getting in possession of the ball, switched the play very well which opens things up and allows us to keep the ball more easily. So, lots of positive things there.”

Next up for the Whitecaps is a trips to Toronto and Chicago before he finally gets to make his home debut on July 19 at home to LA Galaxy.
